The Best Tooth Whitening Methods

Although some people use teeth whitening toothpastes to brighten discolored teeth, it can actually contribute to permanent staining in the long-term. This is because whitening toothpastes are abrasive and will eventually wear down your enamel until the yellow-colored dentin underneath is exposed. That is why we recommend one of the following two methods for our patients in the Fresno, Visalia and Reedley area.

1. Custom teeth whitening kits: For this method, we will fit your upper and lower teeth with custom trays that you will fill with a bleaching gel. The gel comes in small graduated syringes so you can easily insert the exact amount necessary. By wearing the trays overnight or for a few hours each day, the gel will whiten your teeth within a few weeks.
2. Laser teeth whitening: This method is more expensive, but can whiten your teeth quickly. It works by applying a thin layer of whitening gel to your teeth that is exposed to the activating light of a laser. After about an hour, your smile will become up to eight shades lighter.

These two systems can also be used together to maintain your dazzling smile for years to come. If you elect to have laser whitening first, you can use a tooth whitening kit to "touch up" your smile whenever necessary.
