What is temporomandibular joint disorder?
Temporomandibular joint disorder/dysfunction, which is commonly referred to as TMD/TMJ, is a jaw joint disease characterized by a misaligned bite.
How can I tell if I have TMD/TMJ?
If you experience any of the common symptoms below, you should contact us to schedule your consultation:
- Headaches and severe migraines

- Tight or stiff jaw muscles
- Ear problems like pressure/congestion and ringing

What diagnostic testing can be done to effectively diagnose TMJ/TMD?
The Ikuta Dental Team uses several different diagnostic tests to diagnose TMJ/TMD, including sonography, computerized jaw tracking, electromyography and X-Rays.
How can you permanently treat TMD/TMJ?
Once we figure out how to properly align your bite we can use a bite positioner (called an orthotic) and permanent dental work such as orthodontic treatment to treat your TMD/TMJ.
Does insurance cover TMD/TMJ diagnosis and treatment?
You will have to ask your insurance provider to find out if you are covered. TMD/TMJ is a medical condition that causes many painful symptoms, so many insurance providers will at least pay a percentage of the costs.
