Ear Problem Treatment

Most people don't associate ear problems with dental health, but sometimes they have a direct connection. Your jaw joint, which is critical to your dental health, is located directly below your ear. When your jaw joint and bite are misaligned causing TMJ/TMD, you can experience any one of the following ear problems:

• Ear aches
• Pressure
• Congestion
• Ringing
• Loss of hearing
• Dizziness (TMJ can inflame the inner ear and affect balance)

Diagnosis & Treatment Options

To find out whether you have TMJ/TMD, we will conduct one or more diagnostic tests, including computerized jaw tracking, electromyography, sonography and X-Rays (go to TMJ Diagnosis for more information). Once a diagnosis has been made, we will:

1. Relieve Pain and Muscle Spasms using Low Frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation (ULF-TENS). This will relax your stressed jaw muscles, increase blood flow and help stimulate endorphin production, which is a natural anesthetic.
2. Stabilize Your Bite using a temporary orthotic (bite positioner). This will align your jaw joint and muscles correctly, allowing them to relax.
3. Permanently Correct Your Bite - Depending on the severity of your condition, there are a few different ways we can permanently adjust your bite.
   • Smooth and reshape your enamel
   • Permanent orthotics
   • Full Mouth Reconstruction
   • Braces
