TMJ
The third most common health ailment in the United States might very well be TMJ. TMJ stands for Tempormandibular Joint Disorder; it’s a jaw alignment problem, and it has a host of different symptoms. Some of the most common ones include persistent and painful headaches, tooth pain, jaw pain, blurred vision, and tingling in the hands and feet.
Treatment for this jaw alignment also varies. Lots of people don’t know this, but the experts at treating TMJ are typically cosmetic dentists. Cosmetic dental schools train dentists in all TMJ-related matters. If you do have TMJ, your cosmetic dentist can offer mouth guards, an orthotic device, surgery or, most commonly, will administer TENS. An orthotic device is used to realign the bite and jaws for comfort and relief from TMJ symptoms. TENS, another method of relieving discomfort, is an advanced system, which uses small electrical pulses to relax the jaw muscles and nerves. TENS can relieve TMJ pain almost instantly. If you have any of the symptoms listed above, it’s definitely worth your while to make an appointment with a cosmetic dentist as soon as possible.
